I Bike YOW

I work on Laurier Avenue.  And eat out a lot on Laurier during the week.  I wanted a way to show to businesses that I didn’t drive to get to their shop. Or need to park.

In fact, I’d hazard a guess that no one has ever bothered to do a visitor survey to find out how their customers get to their businesses.  But that kind of information is overrated.  Especially when anecdotal evidence gets you in the newspaper.  Feel-ology.  It’s a new science we’re perfecting in the city.

So, I had some buttons made to pin to my coat to say “I Bike YOW”.

Indeed.  I bike AND I spend money.  Slow down.

Nice! I’d wear one with pride.

  3. We’ve got a looong way to go. Even the owner of Fosters was against bike lanes the last time I was there. They’re a bike shop… but they think cycling is bad for business?
    pffft.

I have sometimes worn my helmet into stores to make cycling more visible – but that feels kinda dorky. Your pin is really great! Charles, from Citizens for Safe Cycling gave me a couple. I get a lot of compliments. Where could I get more? I may be able to sell a few at a bike-decorating workshop I’m doing on Aug 18th.

  5. Super clever idea.

I very much agree that we aren’t hearing enough about how bike lanes, etc. are making businesses more accessible and attractive to cyclists.

Elegant way to give voice to the cyclists who appreciate the ever increasing cycle-ability of the city.

Lots of other cities are doing the “I bike” concept – I thought it was a friendly message (no matter what type of cyclist you are). And like others have said, I don’t go around wearing my helmet into shops and restaurants, so it’s a little more discrete.

Just stumbled upon this — I noticed someone mentioned they got a few from Citizen’s for Safe Cycling — do they have any more and/or is there a place to grab a few?
    Thanks
